S.M.S. Emden is probably one of the most famous cruisers in naval history. This wonderful model reflects this with his countless details and S.M.S. Emden in this colourful version from 1910 is certainly a highlight in every model collection.

After the great success of the first edition of this model the designer completely reworked the model and improved it in many ways. This white/ochre version of the well-known cruiser comes with a two colour hull. The details are simply amazing and building this model is really fun.

The original is already stuffed with so many details and a beautiful and nicely shaped hull that converting this into a model poses a challenge but means nonetheless pure enjoyment when building the model. The open and detailed bridge with interior is of course as interesting as the alternatively open buildable casemate guns. With the optional Lasercut Set the level of details can be pushed even a bit further. At the same time building this extraordinary model gets a bit easier, too. One of the big challenges with S.M.S. Emden is definitely the rigging. Which is why we recommend to take some extra time to finish this last step of the build.

The model highlights:

  • precise and original hull shape
  • interior of the bridge included
  • detailed funnels
  • casemates optional open
  • filigree masts
  • detailed cannons

In November 1906 the construction of Emden in Gdansk began. Launch should be in May 1908. Even though the work on her sister Dresden began in 1907, she was delivered eight month earlier than Emden. So the class was named after Dresden. Emdens trial run started 10th of July 1909. After four weeks the trials had to be interrupted because Emden had to take part in a maneuver and then served as convoying ship for Hohenzollern. After that she was integrated into the cruiser squadron in eastern Asia.

On November 9th, 1914 Emden met the Australian cruiser HMAS Sydney which finally beached her at North Keeling Island. The achievements of cruiser Emden were outstanding and therefore the surviving crew members were allowed to suffix the word “Emden” to their names.
