The container ship Conti Belgica was built in 1978 by J.J. Sietas shipyard in Hamburg for the Contimar, Zander & Schlieker Group. She was designed as a multipurpose and heavy cargo freighter and had a capacity of 150 containers. In 1981 Conti Belgica was renamed in “Martinique”, 1982 in Ville de Aurora. Later the ship got back her original name. On July 8th, 1987 she sank due to bad weather 20 miles south from Salalah off shore Oman on her way from India to Jeddah. Conti Belgica carried heavy cargo and the crew was rescued.
