Uwajima Castle's main tower is one of the twelve remaining original castle towers and was built by Date Munetoshi, the grandson of Date Masamune and the second leader of the Uwajima Date clan.
During the era of the first Date Hidemune, there was a watchtower-shaped, three-story castle tower built by Todo Takatora, the previous ruler of the area. However, as this structure had deteriorated, Munetoshi replaced it with the current multi-layered tower, which is a renovated three-story castle tower.
Inside the castle tower, shoji doors are still present, and the original design, featuring tatami flooring, was maintained, although there are no gaps or stone drops in the walls. The window gratings have a pentagonal cross-section, allowing guns to be aimed diagonally, and each window can accommodate two guns, reflecting the structure's adaptation to modern warfare involving firearms.
The exterior is entirely covered in white stucco, featuring houndstooth and kara gables. Additionally, the entrance is equipped with a gate topped with a Karahafu roof, making it a distinguished castle tower with an elaborate design.
